Kent Freedom Pass could be extended to sixth form students

Sixth form students could get subsidised bus travel under plans being considered by Kent County Council.

As it stands the Kent Freedom Pass offers unlimited bus travel around the county for £100 a year, for pupils up to the age of 16.

Campaigners have collected nearly 16,000 signatures in support and lobbied the authority to extend this to sixth formers.

Matt Stanley from Mid Kent College said it was unfair not to offer a subsidy.

Mr Stanley, president of the students union at the college, said: "I don't think it's particularly fair that we're asking students to stay in education but not willing to provide the same sort of subsidies for those students [as they do for 11 to 16-year-olds]."

The council has agreed to study the plans.
