Strood recycled waste blaze tackled by fire crews

Fire crews tackling a blaze involving 200 tonnes of recycled waste had to use diggers to stop it from spreading.

Up to 20 firefighters were called to the site in Knight Road, Strood, in Kent, on Sunday afternoon.

Large plumes of smoke could be seen in the area as crews worked with site personnel to control the blaze.

On-site diggers were used to turn over and break down the pile of recycling, and to create a fire break. The blaze was brought under control by 21:30 BST.

The cause is under investigation.
