A fire has broken out on a cross-Channel ferry travelling from Dover to northern France.

It started in the engine room of P&O's Pride of Canterbury vessel as it docked in Calais at about 08:00 BST.

The ferry company said the fire had been extinguished and nobody was injured.

A spokesman said the 337 passengers on board had disembarked as normal. Two sailings have been cancelled to allow the damage to be assessed.

He added that the affected passengers would be accommodated on the next available departure.
