Man seriously injured in Sheppey houseboat fire

A man has suffered severe burns to his face, arms and hands in a fire on a houseboat in Kent.

Fire crews were called to the boat at the jetty near First Avenue in Queenborough, on the Isle of Sheppey, just after 20:30 GMT on Tuesday.

The fire started in a diesel heater and had spread to the living area.

The man, in his 50s, was rescued from the boat by firefighters, who had to tackle the blaze from the waterside using a rigid inflatable boat.

Kent Fire and Rescue said the fire was accidental.
