Man sexually assaulted on Lancaster canal tow path

A 21-year-old man has been sexually assaulted on a canal tow path in Lancashire.

The man was on the path by the Lancaster canal, between Aldcliffe and Galgate, when he was attacked between 2200 and 2300 BST on Tuesday.

Det Ch Insp Neil Esseen, of Lancashire Police, said personal items were also taken and may have been discarded.

"We are also interested in people who may have seen someone camping or living rough along the canal bank," he added.

"Despite the heavy rain on that night, the canal tow path is often used by boat owners, dog walkers and joggers so it is possible that someone may have seen the victim either before or after the attack," said Mr Esseen.
