WWII shell discovered by workmen in Morecambe

An unexploded shell, believed to date back to World War II, has been found by workmen digging up a Morecambe street.

The shell was discovered in Manor Grove just before 1300 BST and a small cordon was put up around the site.

Army bomb disposal experts attended and the device was examined. It was thought the shell may still be fused, but that it was safe to move.

It was taken away to be destroyed and the area was declared safe a few hours later, at about 1630 BST.
