A 23-year-old motorcyclist has died after his bike was in collision with a taxi on Blackpool Promenade.

Paul Cross, from Thornton, was riding a Suzuki when it crashed into a black taxi cab in Wellington Road just after 2230 BST on Wednesday.

He suffered multiple injuries and was pronounced dead a short time later at Blackpool Victoria Hospital.

The taxi driver was not injured in the crash but was treated at the scene for shock, a police spokeswoman said.

She added that early indications were that the driver was not at fault.

In a statement issued through the police, Mr Cross' family said: "Paul was a much loved son, brother and grandson and he will be sadly missed by all his family and friends.

"We are naturally devastated by what has happened and would like to be left alone to grieve for our loss."

Sgt Peter Beresford, from Lancashire police, said: "I would appeal for anyone who was in the area at the time and who witnessed something to come forward and contact us.

"I am also keen to speak to people who perhaps witnessed either the Suzuki bike or the taxi prior to the collision to come forward."
