An investigation is under way into a collision between an ambulance and a car in Lancashire.

The crash, which involved a silver Mazda, happened on Station Road, Kirkham, at about 1000 BST.

The 90-year-old male driver of the car was taken to hospital in Blackpool with suspected spinal injuries.

The North West Ambulance Service (NWAS) vehicle has been taken off the road for inspection. It had not been responding to an emergency.

Both crew members were shaken but otherwise unhurt, a NWAS spokeswoman said.

They treated the occupant of the car at the scene before he was taken to hospital in a second ambulance.

A section of Station Road was closed by police for investigations.
