Police warning after Fylde van thefts

Police are warning van owners to make sure their vehicles are locked after a spate of thefts on the Fylde coast.

Officers said 15 commercial vans - all of them with keys left in the ignition - had been stolen in August.

They are urging drivers to take extra care about where they park and ensure their vehicles are locked.

Vans have been stolen on streets across Blackpool, including Westcliffe Drive and Coleridge Road, and Hatfield Avenue and Broadway in Fleetwood.

Det Con James Weatherby said: "We are investigating these incidents and are doing all we can to trace those responsible but it is timely to remind drivers to follow some basic crime prevention advice.

"I would encourage all drivers to remember to remove their keys from the ignition and secure their doors.

"I would also advise motorists to try and park their vehicles in well-lit areas and not leave anything of value such as tools, sat navs and cash inside."
