Girl, 14, critically injured in horse and car crash

A 14-year-old girl has been critically injured after her horse collided with a car in Lancashire.

The teenager was walking with the animal on the A683, Hornby Road, in Claughton, at 1600 BST on Saturday.

The horse was startled and collided with a Range Rover, before falling on top of the girl.

The youngster was taken to the Royal Manchester Infirmary with arm and abdominal injuries, where she remains in a critical but stable condition.

The horse was badly injured and had to be destroyed at the scene.

Police have appealed to any witnesses to contact them.
