Couple seriously hurt in Blackpool crash

An elderly couple are being treated for serious injuries after their car was in collision with another in Blackpool.

They had to be cut free from their Rover after the crash on Progress Way at 1315 BST. The man, aged 73, is in a critical condition. His 70-year-old wife is in a stable condition.

Police said the female driver, aged 26, of the other car, a Seat, had minor injuries. She has been arrested on suspicion of dangerous driving.

Progress Way has now been re-opened.

Accident investigation officers have been at the scene collecting evidence and clearing the debris away.

Anyone who witnessed the crash is urged to contact police.
