Police have released details of a man they are looking for in connection with a woman who was sexually assaulted in a shop in Lancashire.

The woman was alone in the shop on Moorgate in Ormskirk when a man walked in and attacked her.

Detectives said the woman was left extremely distressed after the attack, which happened on 18 October.

The attacker is described as white, about 45 and 5ft 10in (1.7m) tall with dark receding hair and a tanned face.

He had thick hair that was combed over to one side and was clean shaven with bright blue eyes.

'Pre-planned attack'

He is described as having a tanned, plastic looking face.

Police said he was wearing a lightweight zip-up navy-coloured jacket which had elasticated sleeves and waistband paired with navy blue Chino-style trousers and black shiny shoes.

He was also wearing a glove on one of his hands.

Police have stepped up patrols in the area and have been looking at local CCTV footage.

They have released an image of the man they are looking for over the attack.

Sgt Duncan Whitehead said: "A major investigation is underway into this offence which has left a young woman very frightened and still struggling to come to terms with her ordeal.

"From our enquiries so far, we believe this may have been a pre-planned attack and that witnesses may have seen the offender in the area around Moorgate in recent weeks.

"We would ask people to cast their minds back to recent weeks and to come forward and contact police if they believe they may have seen a man acting suspiciously in the area or if they have any information at all that could assist us with our enquiries."
