Man in court over solicitor's death in Widnes, Cheshire

A man has appeared in court charged with the murder of a solicitor who was found strangled in the boot of a car in Cheshire.

Police discovered the body of Linda Bakewell, 45, in a silver Nissan Note hire car parked in Shavington Walk, Widnes, on Wednesday morning.

Philip Martins, 47, of Somerford Walk, Widnes, appeared before Warrington magistrates on Friday morning.

He was remanded in custody to appear at Chester Crown Court on Tuesday.

Ms Bakewell, of Rainhill on Merseyside, was described by colleagues at Armstrong Solicitors in Liverpool, where she was a director, as a popular member of staff.
