Man dies on M55 motorway in Lancashire

A 27-year-old man has been found dead on the M55 motorway in Lancashire.

Police believe the man fell from a bridge over the carriageway near Preston just after 2330 GMT on Thursday, before he was hit by a van.

Emergency services were called after the man, who is from Clifton, was seen lying in the westbound carriageway just after junction one near Preston.

He died at the scene. The carriageway was closed at junction one for three hours after the incident.

Anybody who witnessed a man on the motorway bridge or the incident itself is asked to call police.
