Two rescued from Blackpool promenade fire

Two people were rescued by firefighters after a fire broke out in a block of flats on Blackpool Promenade.

The fire service was called at 0830 GMT to the four-storey terraced property close to the Manchester pub.

On arrival, firefighters saw smoke billowing from the windows on the top floor of the property where they rescued the only two occupants.

The pair were taken to hospital suffering from the effects of smoke. The fire's cause is being investigated.
