Two women have been arrested in connection with an attack on a woman in a Blackpool street and an assault on a man who went to her aid.

The 20-year-old was attacked by two people who had been ejected from the Kaos Bar, a club on Queen Street, at around 0230 GMT, police said.

A 24-year-old man who went to help her was also attacked.

Both were treated in Blackpool Victoria Hospital for face wounds and the man also had knife wounds on his arm.

Det Insp Andy Unsworth said: "This was a nasty and unprovoked assault which has left the two victims requiring hospital treatment and incredibly shocked."

Lancashire Police said a 23-year-old woman of no fixed address had been arrested on suspicion of wounding with intent and a woman aged 22, also of no fixed address, had been arrested on suspicion of unlawful violence.
