Teenager critical after moped crash in Chorley

The condition of a 16-year-old boy from Lancashire who crashed his moped has deteriorated and he is now critically ill, police said.

The Chorley teenager's injuries were not thought to be life threatening at first but they have since worsened.

He was riding a 50cc moped when he hit a telegraph pole at about 18:00 GMT on Tuesday on Blackburn Road, near the junction with Knowley Brow.

Lancashire Police is appealing for witnesses to the collision.

He is being treated at the Royal Preston Hospital.

Sgt John Wharton, from the Road Policing Unit, said: "The 16-year-old is very poorly in hospital and we have specially trained officers supporting his family through this difficult time."

Anyone with any information is urged to contact Lancashire Police.
