A 42-year-old has been jailed for stabbing a man to death in Lancaster.

Colin Wilson, 41, was found at a flat on Cawthorne Street in the town last November.

He was taken to the Royal Lancaster Infirmary to be treated for his injuries, but died a short time later.

Hugh McMahon, of Westminster Road, Morecambe, was cleared of murder but found guilty of manslaughter. He was ordered to serve at least six years in jail by a judge at Preston Crown Court.

Senior investigating officer Det Ch Insp Andrea Barrow said: "McMahon was a habitual knife carrier and on this occasion used his knife to cause a single stab would to Colin Wilson which sadly killed him.

"The local community were left shocked following this horrific crime, as incidents like this are thankfully very rare in Lancaster.

"A full and thorough investigation was carried out where members of the local community assisted the police. We are very grateful to those who came forward with information."
