Eight beaches across Cumbria and Lancashire have been named as some of the cleanest beaches in the UK by an anti litter charity.

Four beaches in Cumbria and four in Lancashire have won Keep Britain Tidy's Quality Coast Awards.

The Lancashire beaches are Morecambe North, Morecambe South, Jubilee Beach Cleveleys and Ferry Beach Fleetwood.

In Cumbria the beaches at Haverigg, Seascale, Silecroft and St Bees were also recognised.

But one beach that was nominated last year - Marine Beach at Fleetwood - has lost its QCA.

Beaches win the awards for being judged to be clean and litter free.

However none of the beaches in Lancashire or Cumbria have received the coveted Blue Flag status which is administered by Keep Britain Tidy for The Foundation for Environmental Education.

To qualify for this status beaches must satisfy a number of criteria covering environmental education and information, water quality, environmental management, safety and services.
