An 11-year-old Lancashire boy who has gone missing was last seen boarding a tram in Greater Manchester, police have said.

Alex Jones left his home in Rawtenstall on Monday morning and has not been seen since he boarded a tram in Bury at about 13:35 BST.

He was wearing a Garfield motif vest, multi-coloured shorts and red trainers.

Lancashire Police's Det Insp Marie Haworth said anyone who had seen him should "get in touch immediately".

"He has been missing for more than 24 hours and given that he is only 11, people are becoming increasingly concerned for his welfare," she said.

"I would appeal to anyone who may have seen Alex to come forward and contact the police."

A spokesman for Greater Manchester Police said the force was investigating possible sightings of a boy matching Alex's description in the Piccadilly area of Manchester.
