Farington Recycling Centre re-opens after £3m revamp

One of Lancashire's busiest recycling centres has re-opened after a £3m redevelopment.

The Farington Recycling Centre on Flensburg Way, Leyland, has been closed for six months while the improvements have been made.

People will no longer have to climb steps with their waste, and it is hoped the new, more efficient layout will reduce traffic congestion.

Lancashire County Council said the site is now "much more user-friendly".

Steve Scott, head of waste management at the council, said: "One of big problems with the old layout was that the centre had to close when we changed skips over and we had to close four or five times a day for 20 minutes at a time, causing traffic to back up.

"The layout now means we can service all the facilities without having to close at all."
