Magistrate removed from bench over 'false' police reports

A magistrate from Lancashire has been removed from the bench for making false reports to the police, according to the Office for Judicial Complaints.

A panel for the office found Elayne Bryan from the Fylde coast bench had "acted inappropriately" and should be removed from office.

The Lord Chancellor and Lord Chief Justice agreed with its recommendation to remove her from the magistracy.

Mrs Bryan has so far been unavailable for comment.

A spokesman for the Office for Judicial Complaints said: "The panel found that Mrs Bryan had made a report to the police and subsequently signed a written statement which was false to a significant degree."

Mrs Bryan was appointed to the bench in December.
