A 31-year-old man has admitted murdering his father at a house in Lancashire.

Brian Hughes, 60, was found by police at The Lea, Darwen, in the early hours of 31 March.

A post-mortem examination found he died from head injuries.

Anthony Hughes, of no fixed address, pleaded guilty at Preston Crown Court. He is due to be sentenced on 30 September.

Det Insp Andy Hulme described the murder as a "callous and sustained attack on an innocent man".

He said he was pleased Hughes pleaded guilty as it saved the family from having to attend a trial, adding: "He has shown absolutely no regard for his father and now faces a considerable custodial sentence which reflects what he has done.''
