Body of Lancaster woman found on Morecambe beach

The body of a woman from Lancaster has been found on Morecambe beach.

Susan Alston, 51, was found by a passer-by on the central beach, near Morecambe's clock tower, at 05:30 BST.

Police said they were treating her death as "unexplained" and were awaiting the results of a post-mortem examination.

Officers said Ms Alston had been on a night out with friends in the resort on Friday.

The last reported sighting of her was at 02:00 on Pedder Street and detectives are appealing for anyone who saw her after that time to contact them.

Det Supt Neil Esseen said: "We are desperate to find out what happened to her.

"We really need anyone who may have seen her after this time to come forward and speak to us so that we can piece together events and bring comfort to her family.

He added: "It is vital that we establish how Susan came to be on the beach."

He said she was white, around 5ft 2ins (1.58m) tall with fair hair and was wearing black trousers, black wedge shoes, a blue top and a beige jacket.
