Hypothermic sea scooter riders rescued from Ribble estuary
Two men suffering from the early stages of hypothermia have been rescued after their new sea scooters ran aground on a sandbank in the Ribble estuary.
Lifeboat teams from Lytham St Annes, Southport and Blackpool mounted the search after the men were reported missing at about 20:15 BST on Saturday.
The RNLI said the pair were "rapidly deteriorating" when found and were taken to Blackpool Victoria Hospital.
The rescued men were not carrying radios or flares to raise the alarm.
Rob Stephenson, from the Lytham lifeboat, said: "If they had not been found by nightfall the drop in temperature could have resulted in a completely different outcome."
