Gang steals £50,000 in Preston cash guard robbery

An armed gang has stolen about £50,000 after a cash machine security guard was targeted while delivering money in Preston.

Police believe three or four men entered the McColls newsagents on Ribbleton Avenue on Friday armed with baseball bats and machetes.

Staff were threatened and the guard suffered a cut wound.

An Audi and a red Nissan GTR were used to flee the scene, police said. The Audi has since been recovered.

Det Sgt Jerry Sturgess said: "The red Nissan may still be in the Preston area and I would urge anyone that may have seen the car to contact us as soon as possible."
