A 62-year-old man was killed after losing control of his sports car and hitting a tree in Kirkham.

The crash happened on the Kirkham Bypass at about 20:15 GMT on Tuesday.

Police said a passing paramedic saw the MG sports car lose control before the collision and no other vehicles were involved.

The driver, from Preston, was pronounced dead and the road was closed for four hours while officers examined the scene.

Sgt David Hurst, of Lancashire Police, said: "This is a tragic incident and our thoughts are with the family and friends of the man.

"We are appealing for anyone who may have seen the vehicle in the area or who witnessed what happened to get in touch so that we can establish exactly how the collision occurred."
