Lancashire power cut: Gas reconnected at 1000 homes

Gas has been restored at more than 1000 Lancashire homes cut off when a gas pipe was damaged, said National Grid.

About 1100 homes were left without gas in Great Eccleston, Little Eccleston and Elswick after a main gas supply was damaged during roadworks on Thursday.

National Grid said its team of 60 engineers had now reconnected supplies at all properties it has been able to access.

It said engineers had left contact details at the remaining 67 homes.

The utility firm said: "We would like to thank people for their patience in bearing with us while we restored gas supplies.

"This has been a major operation and we have now restored gas to every property where we've been able to gain access."

It added it had sent a letter to all properties affected with information about compensation for loss of gas.
