Bolton-le-Sands elderly cyclist dies after pavement fall

An elderly cyclist died after he fell from the pavement into the road and was hit by an oncoming car, police said.

The 87-year-old man was on the side of the A6 in Bolton-le-Sands, Lancashire, on Friday afternoon when he fell and was struck by a blue Volvo XC70.

He was taken to Royal Preston Hospital with head injuries, where he died.

Police have called it a "tragic accident" and asked for any witnesses to come forward.
