An unexploded military mortar bomb is believed to have been found near a park in Lancashire, police have said.

Police cordoned off an area close to the Old Tram Bridge in Avenham Park, Preston, at about 16:00 BST.

Lancashire Police said the suspicious object was discovered by metal detectors.

The 100m cordon meant there was no access to Avenham Park from South Ribble via tram bridges or the river bank.

Police have advised members of the public to stay away from the area until further notice.
