No further action is to be taken against a man who was arrested over social media threats aimed at a Lancashire school's staff and students.

Messages posted on Facebook in December claimed the user planned to "kill as many people as possible" at Montgomery High School in Bispham, Blackpool.

A 55-year-old man from Blackpool was held on suspicion of public nuisance and malicious communication offences.

He was released without charge on Friday, Lancashire Police said.

The messages, created by an anonymous user, had threatened to harm pupils when the school term started on 4 January.

The school opened as planned, albeit with a police presence.
