Leeds-Liverpool Canal towpath rape suspect arrested

A 47-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of rape 11 days after a woman was sexually assaulted on a canal towpath in Leeds.

The 23-year-old woman was attacked on the Leeds-Liverpool Canal towpath near Viaduct Road, just before the Kirkstall railway viaduct, on Monday 19 July.

The suspect was arrested by officers in the Burnley area of Lancashire on Friday morning.

He was being brought to West Yorkshire for questioning, police said.
