Two men arrested over charity bag scam in Rothwell

Two men have been arrested over a charity bag scam in Leeds.

Leaflets claiming to be from Macmillan Cancer Support have been delivered to houses in Woodlesford, Rothwell, asking people to leave out doorstep donations.

Police said although the flyers looked authentic, the charity does not collect donations from doorsteps.

Two men were arrested after officers stopped a van on Juniper Avenue. Police said inside they found 50 bags of donations with flyers attached.

The men, aged 26 and 29, from the Burley area, are being held on suspicion of fraud by false representation.

Police said the charity bags found in the van would be donated to other cancer charities in the area.
