Leeds family escapes injury as car hits home

A Leeds family had to spend a night in a hotel after a car crashed through the wall of their living room.

The car came off Green Hill Road in Armley and hit a bus stop before smashing into Ibrahim Alhammadi's house at about 07:30 BST on Sunday.

Firefighters had to cut the motorist free from the car. He was taken to hospital with injuries which were not thought to be serious, police said.

The family was upstairs when the crash happened.

Family friend Abdul Hamadi said when he heard the sound of the crash he thought it was a gas explosion.

He said the family's children were "very upset".

He said: "They're crying, they've lost their shoes and clothes, everything's missing."

Scaffolding was put up to make the building safe and engineers were carrying out structural checks on the home.

Police have appealed to witnesses to come forward.
