Stanningley bypass double death crash: Man remanded

A man has appeared in court charged with causing the deaths of a couple in a crash in Leeds.

David Metcalf, 68, and his wife Dorothy, 65, died after their Fiat Punto was involved in a collision with a Volvo C70 on the Stanningley bypass.

Eduard Mereohra, 26, of Autumn Grove, Burley, Leeds, appeared at Leeds Magistrates' Court charged with causing death by dangerous driving.

He was remanded in custody to appear at the city's crown court on 10 January.

Mr and Mrs Metcalf lived in Tinshill, Leeds.

Police are still appealing for witnesses to the incident, which happened at 11:10 GMT on Sunday, to contact them.
