Thieves in West Yorkshire who steal fuel from petrol stations are being targeted by police.

Between November 2010 and October 2011, 906 instances were recorded in Bradford - up 40% on the year before.

Police have released 15 CCTV images of people wanted in connection with 'make off' offences.

Faheem Rahman, co-owner of a Bradford petrol station, said: "We've had drive offs where people have even waved at the staff to taunt them."

Det Ch Supt Mark McManus, of West Yorkshire Police, said: "Prevention is always better than cure and if we can make it difficult for these thieves to obtain plates in the first place, we can effectively reduce the problem.

"I think it's right across West Yorkshire and probably nationally, and could relate to the current economic climate and the spiralling cost of fuel".
