A family car business in West Yorkshire has been destroyed by fire.

The blaze at Motorzone car showroom in Pontefract started at about 22:21 GMT on Saturday.

Up to 70 firefighters from across the region were at the scene including crews from Wakefield, Castleford, Garforth and Featherstone.

The fire took more than eight hours to control and an investigation has started. The owners of the business said they were devastated.

Junaid Mohammed, a relative of the owner, said: "The scale of the fire was so large it was unbelievable. It was really hard to absorb. We were here for about an hour and the fire brigade were working, they couldn't put it under control.

"It was absolutely shocking to be honest with you."
