Two people have been arrested on suspicion of murdering a baby girl who died in hospital in West Yorkshire.

The seven-week-old girl was taken to Pinderfields Hospital in Wakefield on Thursday night and died at about 03:00 BST on Friday.

An 18-year-old woman and a 28-year-old man, thought to be the baby's parents, are being questioned by detectives.

On Saturday, a police spokesman said officers had been given more time to question the pair.

On Friday, police said the baby was taken to the hospital from an address in Ashleigh Avenue, Pontefract.

Neighbour Keith Coverdale said he had been told there had been an ambulance at the property.

He said: "One of our neighbours had actually seen an ambulance pull up and take them all out.

"I don't know whether they went with flashing lights or anything.

"We've only spoken to the people (in the house) once, they really kept themselves to themselves."

Police have not confirmed the identity of the couple.
