Part of Leeds city centre had to be cordoned off after high winds ripped a piece of metal cladding from a hotel.

Infirmary Street and Park Row were closed for about 90 minutes from 10:00 BST as fire-fighters secured the side of the Park Plaza on City Square.

Police said Victoria Road was also closed to high-sided vehicles near Leeds' tallest building, Bridgewater Place, because of the wind.

The Met Office said gusts reached 60mph (97km/h) in West Yorkshire.

Park Plaza said the panel came loose in the early hours of the morning "following extreme wind conditions".

"The safety and security of our guests and members of the public remains our priority," the hotel said, in a statement.
