Bradford Switchgear and Instrumentation jobs 'at risk'

Up to 85 jobs at a West Yorkshire electrical parts manufacturer are at risk, company bosses have said.

Bradford-based Switchgear and Instrumentation has said it is to start a consultation over possible cuts.

The company designs and manufactures switchgear, motor control and power management systems.

Richard Fearnside, head of human resources, said the consultation had been prompted by a "review of business operations".

He said: "There's no confirmed number of redundancies.

"We have announced that we are considering making some redundancies and the announcement had a consideration of up to 85, but nothing is confirmed."

"We're entering in to consultation with our workforce on Monday and that will last us through until at least the end of May," he added.

Powell Industries bought Switchgear and Instrumentation for $18m - £11.6m at current exchange rates - in 2005.

In 2005 the company employed about 300 people. However, the firm was unavailable to confirm the total number of staff employed in 2013.
