Man charged with Leeds canal towpath murder

A man accused of murdering a 38-year-old woman who was found with head injuries on a canal towpath in Leeds, has appeared in court.

Michaela Heaton was found off Canal Road in Armley on Thursday.

Kevin Whyment, 53, of Landseer Drive in Bramley, Leeds, was arrested at the scene.

He was charged with Ms Heaton's murder and appeared before Leeds Magistrates' Court earlier, where he was remanded in custody.

He will appear at the city's Crown Court on Wednesday.

Police are now trying to trace her relatives and are appealing for witnesses to come forward.
