A man has denied defrauding Leeds Grand Theatre out of more than £178,000.

Peter Alp, 52, of Herne Bay, Kent, along with Dean Oates, 45, from York, are accused of submitting 54 false invoices between 2011 and 2013.

Mr Alp pleaded not guilty at Leeds Crown Court to one count of fraud. He is due to stand trial on 22 June at the same court.

Mr Oates admitted one count of fraud at a previous hearing and is due to be sentenced at the end of Mr Alp's trial.

The theatre, which is on New Briggate in the city centre, was built in 1878 and is run by the council.
