Police have started a murder investigation following the discovery of a 42-year-old man's body in a house.

It was discovered following a flat fire in Monday evening at Mill Street in Barwell, Leicestershire.

Two local men have been arrested in connection and are being questioned by officers.

Det Ch Insp Mark Harrison, of Leicestershire police, said: "The investigation is still in its early stages."

"I'm trying to piece together exactly what happened at the flat where the fire took place," he said.

A cordon around the scene will remain in place to allow officers to conduct a search of the flat and the surrounding area.

Mill Street and High Street in Barwell will be blocked off to traffic while the investigation, including a search of drains in the neighbourhood, takes place.
