Plans to demolish fire-damaged Leicester 'eyesore'
Leicester City Council has applied for planning permission to knock down an eyesore building which was gutted by fire three years ago.
The Provincial Garage on Uppingham Road was left structurally unsafe after the fire in March 2007, but legal problems have delayed its demolition.
If approved, the work will be carried out by the council but paid for by the site's owner, said the local authority.
It is hoped that demolition can begin within two weeks
Adrian Russell, the council's director of environmental services, said: "If this planning application is approved, we can start work to get rid of this eyesore finally.
"The gutted building has been a blight on the area over the last three years, so we are delighted to be able to get to work on it and carry out the necessary clean-up."
