Volunteers have helped more than 200 households in Leicestershire with safety, security and benefits issues.

Co-ordinated by Blaby local policing unit, the team received extra training from the fire service and Blaby District Council.

They carried out fire safety checks, SmartWater marking, gave advice about distraction burglars and helped review benefits and household repairs.

Organisers said they had helped people with expertise from three agencies.

Dave Watson, station manager at Leicestershire Fire and Rescue's Meridian Fire Station, added: "This is a great example of partnerships working together to assist each other and the members of our community.

"It is vital that we are able to reach as many of the vulnerable members of our local community and the Safe, Secure and Comfortable project is an added benefit to us all."
