Warning after parked vehicle break-ins in Beaumont Leys

People parking their vehicles in an area of Leicester are being warned to be extra vigilant after a spate of break-ins and thefts.

Since the end of June, thieves have broken into vehicles in the Abbey Park area of Beaumont Leys.

Windows have been smashed and satellite navigation systems stolen, along with tools, bags and sunglasses.

Pc Ian Lovell of Beaumont Leys local policing unit said valuables should not be left on display in cars and vans.

He said: "Satellite navigation systems and car stereos are particularly appealing to thieves, if possible remove them and their cradles whenever you leave your car.

"As glove compartments are regularly searched during these incidents, if it isn't possible to take the items with you, lock them safely in your boot."
