Leicestershire bungalow blast treated as arson

Firefighters say an explosion and fire which destroyed a bungalow in Leicestershire was started deliberately.

Fire crews were called to Wood Road in Ellistown, near Coalville, just after 0300 BST.

More than 20 firefighters from Coalville, Ashby and Market Bosworth tackled the fire. No-one was hurt.

Steve Smith from Leicestershire Fire and Rescue said investigators believed the cause was arson.

Mr Smith said: "Either petrol, white spirits, or materials of that nature were introduced into the property to rapidly spread the fire and increase the rate at which the fire grew."

Leicestershire Police have confirmed they are investigating the incident.
