Council's amnesty on Leicester beauty firms

Leicester firms offering beauty treatments are being urged to register with the city council.

The council is running an amnesty for businesses until 31 December - after then companies which are not registered face a £1,000 fine.

Firms which carry out hairdressing, body piercing, electrolysis and tattooing need to register as part of city council bylaws.

Council officers will be visiting firms in 2011 to ensure they are registered.

Govind Mandora, the city council's health and safety team manager said: "We are giving businesses a chance to avoid enforcement action being taken against them.

"These bylaws are not new and so there is no excuse. Anyone flouting the law will have enforcement action taken against them."
