Leicester Chinese restaurant fire collapse fears

Up to 60 firefighters have spent several hours bringing a fire under control at a restaurant in Leicester.

Crews were called to the Kashi Chinese Restaurant on Granby Street at about 2330 BST on Sunday.

No-one was injured in the fire but the three-storey building has suffered extensive damage and could collapse.

Firefighters said there were still problems with a fire in the roof which would create clouds of smoke as they attempted to put it out.

Residents and local businesses have been advised to keep windows closed until the fire is completely out but a Leicestershire Fire and Rescue spokesperson said the blaze was under control.

Granby Road remains closed and traffic diversions have been put in place.

The cause of the fire is not yet known.
