Woman, 90, hurt in Leicester street robbery

A 90-year-old woman needed hospital treatment for a broken wrist after being robbed on a street in Leicester.

She had just got off an 87 Arriva bus at the last stop on Aylestone Drive on Friday afternoon when a man approached from her behind.

He took money and a bank card from the victim's pocket then pushed her into the road before running off.

Appealing for witnesses, Det Con Sarah Walker condemned the attacker's actions.

She said: "This was a despicable crime against an elderly vulnerable person. Any injury is difficult to recover from but when you're elderly these types of injuries take much longer to recover from and end up affecting people's way of life.

"It was raining heavily on the afternoon of the incident and the victim was trying to arrange her walking frame when she was targeted by the offender, she was left lying in the road before a passing motorist stopped to assist her."
